Method 1: Audio Mix in Photos (newer iPhones)

  1. Open the video in Photos and tap Edit.
  2. Tap the Audio Mix button.
  3. Choose In-Frame, Studio or Cinematic. Studio reduces background sounds and reverb.
  4. Drag the slider to set the strength, then tap Done.

Audio Mix only works on videos recorded with Spatial Audio, supported on iPhone 16 models, iPhone 17 models and iPhone Air (support.apple.com, checked 19 October 2026).

Method 2: an AI app, for any video

  1. Open Noise Reducer and choose the video from Photos.
  2. Listen to the cleaned sound and compare it with the original.
  3. Choose a strength. Strong is a good start for outdoor videos.
  4. Save to Photos. The picture is copied without re-encoding.

What does not work on iPhone

  • iMovie for iPhone has no noise reduction control. It is only in iMovie for Mac.
  • Voice Isolation works while you record or call. It cannot clean an existing video.

Tips for cleaner sound next time

  • Get closer to the person speaking.
  • Turn away from the wind.
  • On iOS 26, Voice Isolation can be used in the Camera when Spatial Audio recording is off (reported by third-party guides).
  • Use a small external microphone for interviews.
